Precision machining, measured

Turned and milled components for hydraulics, pumps and two-wheeler drivetrains — with every tolerance stated against the feature it was measured on and the temperature it was measured at.

Our story

Fourteen CNC machines — nine turning, five vertical — in one building in SIDCO Estate since 2011. Every figure below names what it was measured on, because a bare tolerance is not a specification.

Quality and metrology

What is measured, by what instrument, how often, and what happens when a feature comes out of tolerance. All four are stated on the quotation rather than left to the operator on the day — which is the difference between a price you can compare and a price you cannot.

01First-article inspection

Every new part number gets a full dimensional report against the drawing before the run starts, and you approve it before we cut the rest. It adds two days and it is the reason we have not scrapped a run in four years.

02In-process control

Sampled per shift against control limits on the features the drawing flags as critical. Sampling frequency is stated on the quotation rather than left to the operator.

03Metrology

CMM to 3 µm, calibrated annually against a traceable standard, in a room held at 20 °C. A tolerance measured on a hot shop floor in a Coimbatore May is not the tolerance you were quoted.

04When it is out

We tell you before despatch, not after. A concession request with the measured deviation attached, and you decide — we do not ship marginal parts hoping they pass your incoming inspection.

Our latest parts

Four families. Anything outside them we will quote and probably decline.

Hydraulic spools and sleeves

Hydraulic spools and sleeves

Ground bores to 8 µm positional, lapped where the duty needs it. The largest family by volume and the one the shop is set up around.

Pump housings

Pump housings

Cast iron and aluminium, machined from customer-supplied castings. We do not source castings — a shop that does is adding a margin and a blame boundary.

Drivetrain shafts

Drivetrain shafts

Turned, splined and induction-hardened through a partner, with hardness verified on our side before despatch.

Prototype and first-off

Prototype and first-off

Single pieces and runs under fifty, quoted at a stated setup charge rather than hidden in the piece price.

What buyers actually noticed

Two customers, on the thing that changed how they source.

Praveen Nair

The first-article report arrived before the run did, with the two features that were mid-tolerance circled. Nobody had done that for us before — we had always found out at incoming inspection.

They declined a part. Told us the setup would dominate at our volume, named two jobbing shops in Coimbatore, and quoted the other three lines anyway. That is the reason we send them everything now.
